The GX1400 Fixed Mount VHF is a black radio that meets the ITU-R M493-13 Class D Digital Selective Calling standard. It has a separate Channel 70 receiver, allowing it to receive DSC calls even while listening to other communications. When the DSC DISTRESS function is activated, it transmits a digital MAYDAY signal with vessel identification, latitude/longitude, and time (if gps connected) for prompt response. Other types of DSC calls that can be made include Individual, Urgency, Safety, Position Report, and Send.

The radio features a high-resolution dot matrix display that makes it easy to navigate its many features. The display now has a brighter backlight for better contrast. The menu system has been redesigned to be more intuitive, allowing easy access to all functions and settings.

Standard Horizon offers a 3-year waterproof warranty on the Eclipse Series radios. If the radio fails for any reason, including water damage, during normal use within the first 3 years of ownership, it will be repaired or replaced free of charge. After the initial 3 years, the radio is covered by Standard Horizon's Lifetime Flat Rate and Customer Loyalty Service Programs for as long as the original purchaser owns it.
